APPRENTICESHIP AGREEMENT
Apprenticeship requires a signed agreement between you and
the IBEW-NECA, which insures quality training both on the job and in the
classroom. As an apprentice you literally earn while you learn. As you advance
through your training, you will receive predetermined pay increases.
In signing an apprenticeship agreement, you commit to
participate in classroom related training as well as on the job training.

APPLICATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Position: Apprentice Electrician (Inside Wireman)
Starting Wage Approx: $18.88/hr
This is a five year
apprenticeship program. Apprentices work during the day and attend
classes two nights per week. A Journeyman certificate is awarded
upon successful completion.
When:
Applications dates for 2009 will be posted in late 2008. Call
925/228-2302 for information. Applications must be
completed on site and in person, no exceptions. **
Tests: Applicants meeting the minimum requirements will be scheduled for
the following steps.
Notification will be
verbal/or by mail. Eligibility will be determined by the Committee.

The NJATC Aptitude Test (including Algebra and Function and a
Reading Comprehension test) (see:
www.njatc.org website for more information)
2.
Oral interview only if a qualifying score is achieved on the
aptitude test.
Duties:
The
Apprentice Electrician works directly under the supervision of and
assists a qualified Journeyman Electrician in installing or
maintaining a variety of approved wiring methods for distribution of
electrical light, heat, power, radio and signaling utilization
systems in existing or new buildings under construction of
residential, commercial and industrial occupancies; including street
and highway lighting, traffic signal and other outdoor above and
below grade installations.
Minimum Requirements:
Each applicant must:

Be 18
years of age or older, with proof of identification, such as a
drivers’ license or identification card issued by the D.M.V.
(Must have a valid drivers’ license at time of indenture).

Be a
High School graduate or equivalent.
-
Have
completed one full year (2 semesters) of algebra in High School
or one semester of algebra in College or Adult School with a
passing grade of “C” or better.
-
Applicants will be required to take and pass a pre-employment
drug/alcohol test.
-

What to turn in on the
date you make application:

Proof
of identification.

An
official sealed copy of your High
School Transcripts signed by the Registrar’s
Office (No Diplomas) or an official GED
certificate which must include your graduation date and proof of
meeting the algebra requirement. If you did not take algebra in
High School, you must also provide your College or Adult
School Transcripts as proof of meeting the algebra requirement.
The burden of proof is the applicant’s responsibility. (NJATC
online Tech Math Course will meet the algebra requirement) NO
EXCEPTIONS.

PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION OF APPRENTICES
Contra
Costa County
Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee
1.
Selection Procedure:
A. Applications
for entry into the Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training
Committee Program will be taken at the Contra Costa County
Electrical Industry Training Center at 1255 Muir Road, Martinez,
California 94553, on scheduled dates only. Contact the Local Union
office at (925) 228-2302 for current dates and times.
B. The
Federal Department of Labor and the State
Division of Apprenticeship Standards will be notified in writing of
the dates and time that applications for entry into the
apprenticeship program will be taken.
C. All
application blanks will be serially numbered and accounted for. All
applications must be filled out on site and in person, no
exceptions.
D. Applicants
must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, have a high school
education or its equivalent; have at least one year of high school
algebra with a passing grade of C or better each semester or the
equivalent, with burden of proof on the applicant. DIPLOMAS ARE NOT
ACCEPTABLE. Each applicant must furnish an official sealed
transcript of his/her school record/s which may be mailed from the
school to the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC)
office, 1255 Muir Road, Martinez, CA 94553, or hand-carried to the
same address prior to submitting application.
E. The
Committee shall determine the qualifications of all applicants.
F. Interviews
will be granted only to those who meet the basic requirements and
pass written examinations.
G. Applicants
must have proof of identification. All applicants will be required
to supply identification with picture such as a driver’s license or
identification card issued by the D. M. V.
2. Step-by-Step Procedure for Each
Applicant
A. Applicants will be given a copy of
the prerequisites and procedures.
B. After review of the school records,
if it has been determined the applicant meets the minimum
requirements, the applicant will be required to fill out, date and
sign an application.
C. Applicants must take and pass the
NJATC Aptitude Test, presently administered by the JATC.
D. When the results of the aptitude test are
received, those who do not obtain a qualifying score will be notified by
mail. They will be eligible to re-apply at the next application
process, provided six months has elapsed. (A full six months must
elapse before you may retake the NJATC aptitude test.) Those who obtain
a qualifying score will be notified and scheduled for an oral interview
E. A system of recording the progress, by
dates, and other pertinent information, including the final disposition
of each application will be maintained in the official record book, in
the order each application is received.
F. A no show for the APTITUDE TEST or the
ORAL INTERVIEW will be considered the same as a fail.
3. Procedure for Interview
A. All qualified applicants who have
completed their applications and receive a passing grade on the
examinations will be interviewed by the JATC.
B. Applicants will be notified by mail of
the time and place to appear for their interview.
C. The oral interview will be scored on the
basis of 0-100%. The final selection of apprentices will be based
on the results of the oral interview as adjusted to meet compliance with
the program sponsor's Cal-Plan goals. Final selection of individuals
will not be made until all applicants have been interviewed and all
interview scores have been placed in the official application record
book.
D. Applicants will be required to take and
pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test.

APPLICATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Sound and
Communications Apprenticeship
HOURLY WAGE
RATE ~ Starting rate as
provided in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, ranging from
approximately $12.64 to $15.38 per hour (12/1/07) depending upon
geographical area. Earn while you learn!
AGE
~ Must be 18 years of age, providing a valid Photo ID, i.e.
CA Driver License or other ID document of proof.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TRADE
~ Apprentice will typically be under the supervision of a
Communications and Systems Installation Supervisor at all times.
The trade requires physical effort on the part of the apprentice to
do climbing, crawling, crouching, lifting, use motorized tools,
electronic test equipment and work in cramped quarters. Wiring is
frequently color coded for connecting purposes; therefore, the
worker cannot be colorblind. Mechanical ability and finger
dexterity is essential. Work may be performed either indoors or
outdoors, in new and old construction environments.

MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS ~
Ø
Must be a High
School Graduate with a
diploma, or the equivalent G.E.D. or two year Associate Degree or
higher. Proof of diploma, G.E.D. or Degree (sealed Transcript)
must be presented in English when filing application.
Ø
Must have a valid CA
Driver License at time of
indenture.
Ø
Must have completed
one full year (2 semesters) of High School Algebra or one semester
of College Elementary Algebra with a minimum grade of “C” or
equivalent or provide evidence of having successfully completed the
NJATC Tech Math Course (available on-line at
www.njatc.org).
Pre-Algebra does not meet this requirement.
Ø
Must attend classes
as required by the
Northern CA/Northern NV S&C Joint Apprenticeship and Training
Committee. (NorCal S&C JATC)
Ø
Must abide by
Standards, Policies and Procedures adopted
by NorCal S&C JATC.
Ø
Must submit to
NJATC Aptitude Test (including Reading Comprehension, Basic Algebra)
(see: www.njatc.org website for more information),
Oral Interview, and Substance Abuse Screening.
APPLICATIONS
~ Proof of High School Diploma or equivalent and identification must
be shown at the time of application. Applications must be filled
out by the applicant in person. Applications may not
be taken off the premises. (No Exceptions.)
SCOPE
~ The three-year Apprenticeship Agreement requires the S&C
Apprentice to participate in both supplemental training consisting
of 480 classroom hours (Day School) and 4800 OJT (on-the-job
training) hours in order to achieve Installer status, through
exposure to Construction, Installation/Cabling,
Servicing/Maintaining: Sound, Pro-Audio/Video, Fire/Burglar,
Security/CCTV, Access Control, Telephone/Computer Data Cabling and
Electronic Systems Integration.
